Luxury Escapes is a premium global travel brand best known for curating exclusive, high-value holiday packages at some of the world’s most sought-after hotels and resorts. Beyond exceptional stays, Luxury Escapes also offers a comprehensive suite of travel experiences, including flights, cruises, celebrity-hosted tours, car hire, and a range of in-destination activities from hot air ballooning to gourmet cheese and wine tastings.

Founded in 2013 by CEO Adam Schwab in Melbourne, the company has experienced remarkable growth over the past decade with more than 9 million global members.

To support its rapid expansion, Luxury Escapes migrated its data platform to BigQuery and Fivetran in 2018, a move that positioned the company to scale efficiently and capitalise on the eventual post-pandemic travel boom. As the tech team expanded from 30 to 130 engineers, the data platform became a key enabler of its year-over-year growth.

Personalisation at scale drives millions of dollars in campaign revenue

Before Fivetran, data syncs at Luxury Escapes happened just once a day, limiting how quickly the marketing team could react to customer behaviour. After adopting Fivetran, the team moved to real-time data syncs across key sources like Meta, Salesforce, and Stripe — all without writing custom code.

With faster, automated access to high-quality data, marketers were able to power personalised campaigns across email, paid media, and on-site experiences, tailoring offers and content based on real-time signals.

That shift has made a measurable impact: Personalised campaigns now drive millions in annual revenue previously locked to the business, with ongoing site and channel-level optimisations adding even more value.

Centralised data using Fivetran has also enabled the product and data teams to build more advanced pricing and inventory capabilities. A recent feature — developed in just a couple of weeks — is expected to deliver hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue by optimising fill rates and pricing strategies. "This has been driven by the data team, and now it's a consistent moneymaker," Pajer said.

Automation saves engineering time and accelerates delivery

Fivetran has saved Luxury Escapes’ data team hundreds of engineering hours by eliminating the need to build and maintain custom pipelines. The team uses Fivetran for all data movement into BigQuery, where it seamlessly manages schema changes and scales with growing data volume without breaking.

“Without Fivetran, engineers would be writing and maintaining custom pipelines for every data source,” says Richard Biddle, Data Platforms Engineering Manager. “Now, we can rely on fully managed connectors — and shift that time into building features that drive the business forward.”

This automation has also helped accelerate product delivery. With trusted data available sooner, teams can test ideas, ship updates, and refine customer experiences more quickly. For example, they can now measure the impact of A/B tests much faster, enabling quicker releases. 

Today, Luxury Escapes integrates data on over 252 million hotel rates across 100,000+ premium properties, giving the business a clear picture of its pricing competitiveness at scale.

With trusted data in place, the company is now focused on:

  • Improving pricing accuracy using market-aligned models
  • Feeding AI-generated outputs back into the warehouse
  • Building a centralised feature store and segmentation engine to fuel personalisation
