A trip around the world with George Fraser

Spending time with fellow Fivetranners, Fivetran’s CEO reinforces company culture and growth across the globe.

In today's globalized world, we believe it’s more important than ever to build strong connections across our workforce, create a culture of recognition and enable employee success. This past December, Fivetran CEO George Fraser went on a “world tour,” visiting our offices in Ireland, Serbia and India. The purpose of this trip was to do what George feels is one of the most critical elements of the Fivetran culture: connecting with people.

From George’s perspective, “if you are participating in the Fivetran culture, you’re creating it.” He spent quality time in each location, meeting new people and energizing teams by sharing exciting initiatives for 2023.

One of George’s goals on this trip was to understand the unique challenges and opportunities that come with working in each region. He also wanted to recognize the teams for their significant contributions in helping thousands of organizations redefine how they leverage data to run their business.

George’s dedicated visits to each office allowed him to connect with leaders and various members of the staff and engage with them on a personal level. The visits were very impactful, and he says he learned almost as much in one day as when he used to spend a week visiting different offices.

First stop: Dublin, Ireland

Dublin was established early on at Fivetran, so it was remarkable for George to see how much the site reliability engineering (SRE) team had grown in Ireland and how our expanding sales function in the region will support the overall business this year. His time spent on site reinforced the idea that talent is critical to every organization, especially at Fivetran. Our outstanding people are a crucial catalyst to improving our competitive advantage and have fueled our growth as an industry leader today.

Next stop: Novi Sad, Serbia

In Novi Sad, Fivetran’s newest location and home to some of Fivetran’s best engineers, George reinforced his commitment to making Novi Sad successful. For those considering Fivetran, it’s important to know that our software engineers work on real problems at a massive scale. We are geographically distributed and each office takes great pride in the 24/7/365 continuous delivery and service of the industry’s leading automated data movement platform. We certainly have specializations in some of our locations, but every region is an equal partner in producing great work.

Last stop: Bangalore, India

Finally, George wrapped up his tour in Bangalore, which is one of Fivetran’s largest locations. Since its opening in 2016, Bangalore has continued to evolve and grow, now offering hybrid work options. The India team was built one person at a time, and we have worked hard to foster a very collaborative engineering culture that delivers high-quality results. Each individual contributor can have a big impact and that’s a fact we’re very proud of fostering.

If you ask George what the two key things that everyone should know about Fivetran are, it’s that Fivetran delivers a product that customers love and that we are growing quickly.

He, alongside many leaders at the company, cares deeply about every detail of our product, about every person who works here, and about making the company a great success.

“I learn every week how to do my job a little bit better,” adds George. “I’ve been wrong about something every week for the last 10 years. I’ve been right about some big things, too. Together, with my co-founder Taylor Brown, we’ve been able to make the company really successful. But I still think we haven’t realized 90 percent of our potential and I'm obsessed with realizing the rest of it.”
