We’re excited to introduce private networking for Fivetran Managed Data Lake Service — a new way to move data to your cloud storage with secure, controlled network paths that avoid the public internet.
Combining the query-readiness of a data warehouse with the flexibility and cost efficiency of a data lake, Fivetran Managed Data Lake Service delivers a governed, interoperable data foundation to power decision-making, analysis, and AI/ML workloads for enterprises. With private networking, this same streamlined experience now comes with an added layer of network isolation.

What private networking delivers
Private networking keeps traffic between Fivetran and your data lake on the cloud provider’s internal backbone. This ensures that data flows securely between services without ever traversing the public internet.
Key benefits
- Security: Traffic stays off the public internet, and object storage access is restricted to approved clients through bucket policies.
- Speed: Data movement stays on high-performance cloud networks for faster lake migrations.
- Simplicity: There’s no additional networking architecture. The service uses the cloud provider’s native private connectivity features.
How it works
Fivetran supports the default private networking mechanisms from each major cloud provider:
- AWS: Gateway Endpoints
- Azure: Virtual Network Service Endpoints
- Google Cloud: Private Google Access
Object storage endpoints still resolve to public IPs, but routing is automatically secured on the cloud provider’s internal backbone. The bucket policies ensure only the right Fivetran processing region can access the data — keeping your data paths tight, predictable, and locked down. Lastly, colocate object storage with your Fivetran processing region to avoid unnecessary egress charges!
Private networking is a premium feature available to Fivetran accounts on the Business Critical plan.
A more secure foundation for the modern data lake
As organizations take on more advanced workloads, data lakes become increasingly popular to house large volumes of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data. Fivetran Managed Data Lake Service unlocks the ability for the data lake to act as the central source of truth for the business’s data — delivering data from 700+ sources. Metadata in Iceberg and Delta Lake table formats simplifies governance and enables downstream interoperability with any compute engine. Private networking ensures link-level protection: secure, private-path connectivity without a complex setup.
Whether you’re exploring a data lake migration or tightening your security posture, Fivetran Managed Data Lake Service gives you a secure and reliable way to move data at scale.
