We’re thrilled to announce new features for Quickstart Data Models and Fivetran-hosted dbt Core that will empower customers to seamlessly orchestrate, manage, and customize transformations, as well as quickly implement pre-built data models.

What are Fivetran Transformations?

Fivetran Transformations are fully managed data transformation solutions that automate the conversion of raw data into analysis-ready tables within your destination. Unlike traditional methods, where analysts manually execute SQL queries or rely on external scheduling tools, Fivetran automatically triggers model runs based on the user’s scheduling preferences. This approach reduces computational costs from unnecessary model runs, eliminates the need to manually build complex logic, and enables event-driven data processing.

Quickstart Data Models (QDMs): These Fivetran-native Transformations are designed for quick setup in just a few clicks. Our in-platform models cater to the most commonly used Fivetran connectors, enabling you to transform your data effortlessly without writing any code or relying on third-party tools. With 50+ Quickstart Data Models, including use-case-specific options like Ad Reporting, Social Media Reporting, and GenAI-ready models, customers can instantly access essential business metrics without the need to build them from scratch.

You can model your data in your preferred environment using your dbt project, while Fivetran seamlessly orchestrates and manages the model runs. Our intuitive interface provides comprehensive observability by handling scheduling, logging, and monitoring—eliminating manual setup and simplifying tracking, troubleshooting, and optimizing.

What’s new to Fivetran Transformations? 

Reaffirming our commitment to streamlining workflows, increasing reliability, and providing scalability across various tools, we are releasing a suite of additional powerful features:

• Increased flexibility with user-defined dbt jobs: User-defined dbt jobs, available for dbt-core, offer customers greater flexibility and control over their transformation workflows. Previously, customers could only schedule transformations by selecting individual output models, which could become cumbersome when managing mature projects with many output models. User-defined jobs simplify this process by allowing customers to consolidate multiple output models into a few specific dbt commands. This streamlined approach makes pipeline easier to manage, monitor, and debug, saving time and reducing complexity.
• Greater control with scheduling options: Fivetran has enhanced its scheduling options to provide customers with greater control over data transformation timing. These improvements provide customers with greater flexibility, enabling cost savings while aligning with their operational requirements. Our new scheduling options include:
  
  • Hybrid deployment: Transformations can now be immediately run after hybrid connector syncs, keeping your data pipelines up-to-date and aligned with business needs.
  • Cron scheduling: Customers gain precise control over transformation timing directly through the user interface.
  • Integrated scheduling in deployment.yml: Customers can trigger transformations based on connection syncs directly from their configuration with version control, allowing them to align with an infrastructure-as-code philosophy for job definitions.
• More multi-connector data models for every use case: To accelerate your GenAI initiatives, we've introduced the GenAI-Ready Data Model—a pre-built solution that transforms data from popular sources like Zendesk, Jira, and HubSpot into GenAI-ready tables with a single click. This model transforms unstructured document data into manageable "chunks of text," which are then vectorized to enable similarity search, streamlining workflows, and allowing customers to focus on AI model processing. With these models, you can quickly develop and deploy intelligent tools, such as AI-powered search assistants or customer sentiment analyzers, with minimal technical effort. Fivetran also offers several other popular pre-built data models, such as our Ad Reporting Model, Social Media Reporting, Shopify Holistic, and many more.
• A focus on 3rd-party orchestration: Regardless of the tool you're using, Fivetran has you covered. With our new Coalesce integration, you can efficiently manage Coalesce jobs within the Fivetran platform. By running Coalesce jobs downstream of Fivetran connection syncs, this collaboration eliminates the need for manual orchestration, reduces inefficiencies, and optimizes costs—delivering consistently updated, low-maintenance pipelines.
  
  For dbt Cloud users, we will continue to support orchestration for all your dbt Cloud jobs.
