Build your own RAG-based GenAI application in 30 minutes

Learn to build a GenAI app with Fivetran, Snowflake, Cortex, Arctic and Streamlit in our hands-on lab at Snowflake Data Cloud Summit 2024.
May 28, 2024

Are you planning to visit California wine country after Snowflake Data Cloud Summit, or do you want to experiment with building retrieval-augmented generation-based, GenAI applications, or both? Then visit Fivetran’s continuously running, interactive, hands-on lab at booth #1232 in Moscone South for a unique opportunity to interact and create with the latest innovations from Fivetran and Snowflake.

The combination of RAG with large language models (LLMs) transforms how enterprises think about leveraging their data for strategic advantage. A RAG-based approach to GenAI allows a model to work from your unique, contextual data and the data on which the model was initially trained. With that in mind, this upcoming hands-on lab at Snowflake Data Cloud Summit provides a unique opportunity to gain practical experience with an end-to-end RAG-based GenAI application.

Imagine building a personalized wine country visit assistant in 30 minutes. We will guide you in setting up a Fivetran pipeline that moves a custom, structured winery and vineyard visit dataset (wineries and vineyards across all California wine country regions) from a relational database source to the Snowflake Data Cloud.

With the new dataset now in the Snowflake Data Cloud, you will then build a RAG-based GenAI conversational application using Streamlit in Snowflake (Snowflake Native Application) and Snowflake Cortex (Snowflake’s fully managed AI and ML service) and use a range of LLMs that Cortex supports, including Snowflake Arctic (Snowflake’s top tier enterprise-focused LLM built by the Snowflake AI research team).

Using Snowflake Cortex LLM functions and the same focused, contextual, structured custom winery and vineyard dataset, your new GenAI application will provide a personalized guide for your wine country adventure. You can find out everything you want about a winery or vineyard and build your own custom California wine country visit itinerary.

The lab flow

During the interactive, 30-minute hands-on lab, you will learn how to build a complete RAG-based, GenAI application in the Snowflake Data Cloud with Fivetran, Snowflake, Cortex, Arctic and Streamlit.

What you’ll do during the hands-on lab

  1. Create a Fivetran connector from a relational database source with the custom winery and vineyard dataset to the Snowflake Data Cloud.
  2. Transform the new dataset in Snowflake (concatenation and vector table creation for embeddings) and use Snowflake Cortex LLM functions to build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) into your application.
  3. Create a Snowflake Streamlit Native Application (a California Wine Country Visit Assistant) that uses Snowflake Cortex and Snowflake Arctic (plus other LLMs) to plan a visit to California wine country.
  4. Have fun exploring what Snowflake can do using RAG and the custom, structured dataset that includes over 700 wineries and vineyards across all California wine-producing regions. some text
    • Explore interesting information about wineries and vineyards in California.
    • Create a personalized trip/travel itinerary for a California wine country visit to any of California’s wine regions.
    • Compare and contrast the responses from the LLMs in Cortex to see which ones are best for the California wine country visitaAssistant.

What you’ll gain from the hands-on lab

You’ll gain practical knowledge and experience in creating Fivetran data pipelines. You’ll also understand how to integrate an enterprise dataset and retrieval-augmented generation with existing LLMs to develop a practical GenAI application in the Snowflake ecosystem. This lab will help you become more comfortable with Fivetran and Snowflake and better prepare you for the GenAI applications you consider, approve, build or use in your organization in the Snowflake Data Cloud.

What you need to know for the hands-on lab

When does the lab start?

A new Fivetran hands-on lab will start at the top of every hour at Snowflake Data Cloud Summit during Expo Hall hours. Find us at the Fivetran Chat App Lab at booth #1232 in Moscone South.

How many people participate in each lab?

Six seats are available per lab. During Expo Hall hours, a new lab will start at the top of every hour.

How long is the lab?

30 minutes.

Where is the lab?

Find us at the Fivetran Chat App Lab at booth #1232 in Moscone South.

Will there be lab instructors?

Yes. Fivetran lab instructors will walk through the entire lab interactively and display each step on large monitors so that you can easily follow along.

Can I use my laptop?

No. Fivetran provides six dedicated lab laptops.

Do I need to be a data engineer, developer or analyst? Or do I need to have particular technical skills to complete this lab?

No. Anyone and everyone is welcome regardless of background and technical expertise.

How do I get a seat in the lab?

Stop by the Fivetran Chat App Lab at booth #1232 in Moscone South before the top of the hour and register at the front desk. You can also sign up for a lab slot in advance if you like.

Will I hear the instructors clearly and be able to follow the lab?

You’ll receive a silent disco headset to wear during the lab. This headset will allow you to interact with the lab instructor and focus on the lab activities.

What else can you tell me about the lab?

Everyone who completes the 30-minute hands-on lab will receive a limited edition Fivetran t-shirt.

See you in San Francisco on June 3
