Fivetran to Become Steward of the Great Expectations Open Source Community and GX Core Project
OAKLAND, Calif. — May 13, 2026 — Fivetran, the data foundation for AI, today announced plans to become steward of the Great Expectations open source community and GX Core project, supporting the continued development of one of the industry’s most widely used open source data quality frameworks. Under the planned transition, GX Core will continue as an open source, community-driven project. Fivetran intends to support ongoing project maintenance, ecosystem integrations, and community engagement.

The GX community has built an important part of that foundation.”
The stewardship builds on Fivetran’s vision for Open Data Infrastructure, an architectural approach focused on ensuring organizations can access, move, and use their data across systems without restriction. Announced alongside Fivetran’s intent to merge with dbt Labs in October 2025, Open Data Infrastructure is designed to support open, interoperable data infrastructure for analytics and AI while preserving flexibility and freedom of choice for practitioners.
As organizations scale AI initiatives and autonomous workflows, trusted data has become increasingly critical to enterprise operations. Great Expectations enables data teams to define, validate, and monitor data quality across modern data platforms, helping improve trust in analytics, operations, and AI systems.
