Only pay for what you use

Each connection follows a separate cost curve based on usage. As your usage increases, either organically or by adding new sources, your spend rate automatically declines. This means the more you use Fivetran, the more you save.

Total monthly usage x spend rate = connection monthly cost

Your spend rate (aka unit cost) depends on two things:

1. Your volume – The more data you move, the lower your spend rate.
2. Your pricing plan – Each pricing plan has its own spend rate.

Monthly usage refers to the number of monthly active rows (MAR) processed by Fivetran in a calendar month. This usage is measured based on per million MAR.

Usage includes:

• Inserts: New rows added to your destination.
• Updates: Modifications made to existing rows in your destination.

Usage excludes:

• Unchanged rows: Rows retrieved during scheduled re-syncs that haven't changed since the previous sync.
• Initial syncs: The initial bulk data load performed when setting up a connector.
• Deletes: Deletes do not count toward usage.

A connector is a prebuilt data pipeline provided by Fivetran that extracts data from a specific source and loads it to the destination of your choice. These connectors help you establish connections which are individual instances of data pipelines created using Fivetran’s connectors.

We calculate transformations usage based on the total number of successful monthly model runs. Failed runs will not count towards the monthly total. Pricing is usage-based, and the higher the usage, the lower the cost per successful model run. Learn more here.

Monthly model runs are the number of models successfully executed in a given month. Fivetran uses it as a metric to calculate transformations activity and usage levels.

A model run is an SQL statement that produces a materialized table or data view. Transformations often consist of multiple interdependent models that work together to produce the final dataset used for business intelligence (BI) or operational purposes.

If you exceed the 5,000 monthly model runs limit on the Free plan, you can either opt to optimize your usage or upgrade to a paid plan. The first time you exceed the limit, your transformations will continue to function during the next billing cycle.

If your transformations usage exceeds 5,000 monthly model runs for the second time:

• Fivetran will freeze your connections, transformation jobs, and your account.
• To continue using Fivetran, go to the Plans page in your dashboard and upgrade to a paid plan by the end of the month.

The Billing & Usage page in your dashboard provides transformations usage estimates based on historical usage data in your account. There, you can see the usage breakdown by day, the jobs run, and the associated usage for each job.

We offer a 14-day free account trial, so you can test our connectors to see if they meet your business needs. The free trial begins when a connection starts an incremental sync and we detect incremental data. During the account trial period, you can add unlimited connections, review the performance of periodic data updates, analyze your data, and try out other Fivetran features. Once your 14-day free account trial has ended and your account is active, every connection that you create in your dashboard has 14 days of free use at no cost. A new connection’s 14-day free use period begins when our system first detects usage from an incremental sync. This free use period automatically applies to all new connections, irrespective of their type. You can have multiple new connections for a connector that are free to use during the period running simultaneously in your account.
